Sidebar Goodness

There’s puking in this house again and I just can’t stand to think about it, so let’s talk about all the good stuff in the sidebar over there. (If you’re reading in a reader, maybe clicking over just this once wouldn’t hurt?)

First: Bohemian Jubilee, the Princess of Yarn, is giving away coordinating headbands to a lucky winner. One for Mama, one for a girl. And they MATCH. Like we all tried to do in grade school. Or like me and Aubrey now. She lives 100 miles away and yet we always end up buying and wearing the same clothes.

Completely unrelated: my current covet from Bohemian Jubilee is this elf hat. My Samuel needs this hat. (When he quits barfing, of course.)

Confession: I actually got the urge to start cloth diapering again after reading Kelsi’s article at Cheeky Bums Blog. I mean, I got a tee-tiny urge. Which I quickly suppressed. Because I did three boys in cloth diapers at once. I got my gold star. And now I just don’t have time to go back and remember what I did. But if I did have time, I’d be checking out the cute Thirsties diapers at the Cheeky Bums Market.

Have you bought your copy of Mother Letters yet? I don’t know why you’re waiting. Seriously, these little snippets of mother wisdom are carrying me through these days of puke and postpartum. As a gift to you, they’re currently offering a Buy One, Give One special. Click on the link in the sidebar to order your copy and you can give one away to a mama of your choice. Use this code when you check out: Buy1Give1. Anything I make off you clicking that link will be given away to a good cause. Ok?

Homeschool Moms: Did you know that if you click on the links for Tapestry of Grace or All About Spelling to order your supplies for next year, I get some moola back? And if I get moola, I can do more give aways? And maybe buy you a cup of coffee (if you’re local, of course.) We missed getting to a convention to stock up on homeschool curriculum, but rest assured, I’ll be doing Tapestry again this year and we’re starting Ellen on the new All About Reading program when she begins kindergarten. My head is positively swimming with planning and budgeting and ordering and scheduling and, and, and…

So, that’s the Sidebar Goodness before you this month. If you think you and your business belong in the sidebar, don’t hesitate to contact us for next month, ok?

To win the Bohemian Jubilee giveaway, leave a comment with your best “survive the stomach bug” tip. I need all the help I can get. (Or, if you’re squeamish, you can tell me your fave hat, scarf, or knit item from the website.)

And remember, even if you don’t win, a portion of any purchase you make from Bohemian Jubilee is donated to Amazima or Compassion. Everybody wins!

Keep up on laundry and teach them to hit a bucket. Sorry, that’s all I got.

Ugh….trashcans beside the beds, and cool cloths on the foreheads…thats all I got….

Oh I feel for you…about 2 weeks ago, we all had the stomach bug for 4 days and are finally on the upswing! here are my best tips and recommendations: #1. my shark steam mop – it sanitizes easily when little ones miss the bucket. #2. homemade electrolyte drink: http://cheekybumsblog.com/2012/04/03/living-naturally-homemade-electrolyte-drink-move-over-pedialyte/ – it’s SO yummy, so much healthier, and SO much cheaper when you are giving it to multiple children! and finally #3: if you kids start complaining just before lunch that their tummies hurt, don’t shrug it off and give them tuna fish sandwiches for lunch. You’re regret it. trust.me.

Love Kelsi’s homemade Pedialyte recipe! I have bookmarked that for future use! I usually have to dilute the regular pedialyte because it seems to make it worse because it is so sweet. We have also used SMart Water that has electrolytes and that has worked well. one of the things we do when the sickness is family wide is that we try to confine everyone to one room so as to not spread things all over the house especially if Mommy and Daddy are sick too. It is just too hard to keep track of everyone if they are all over the house. Trash cans for everyone. We also try to take this uh…opportunity(?) to try to teach them to get to the potty instead of making more messes. However when there are so many sick trashcans seem to work better. Nice and easy on introducing food. baked potatoes. We give probiotics as soon as people can keep them down. so sorry the sickies are back. Praying it is over soon! blessings, jen

What a great giveaway! I am with you on the stomach bug madness. My two youngest had it last week. I thought all was well, until my 4 year old squeezed my 2 year old’s belly this morning, and my 2 year old threw up. Now it is back to laundry madness. I wish I had sickness tips, but I don’t. I love the Bohemian Jubilee’s newborn elf hat….total cuteness. Praying that these icky stomach bugs depart from our homes.

I whaven’t tried it but saw this trick on Pintrest recently: http://www.ishouldbemoppingthefloor.com/2012/01/stomach-bug-prevention-trick-every-mom.html Whether it worked or not my kids would think it quite a treat to get juice! If it didn’t work my carpet would never be the same. Feel better soon everyone and spare the new van!

  7. Hello there, Sipping warm peppermint tea always helped me feel better when I was younger, and now Dresden likes it too…. that, and lots of hugs : ) Hope you guys purge the pestilence soon!

  8. LoraLynn says:

Allison – I saw that, too. I’ve sent Andrew for some grape juice, but I think someone said you have to use it ALL the time, like a preventative. And, um, we don’t. Still, it can’t hurt. Unless, like you said, someone misses the bowl and hits the carpet.

My tip is pray for patience….. really that is all there is right? And abuse the TV. Also I am about to try the free trial of tapestry as an end of the year thing and if we like it (which I think we will) I will be ordering it this summer… through your link of course! Thanks for blogging about your homeschool choices. I don’t know how you find the energy but it really blesses me in my hunt for good resources. Hope your all feeling better soon!

Laura Lee – You won this giveaway! Congrats!
