If The Friends Were Homeschooled…

So I’m about two years behind the trend, but nothing makes me giggle like a good Friends GIF. Or that GIF where the penguin gets shoved into the ice. Gets me every time. Anyway, last night’s post got me started and I couldn’t stop. My apologies in advance. And also? This is just for grins, people. Don’t take me seriously here. At all.

Mwah. *blows kiss*

Homeschooling – As Re-enacted by Friends:

When my kids see anyone that isn’t ME during the day:

When it’s time for me to turn my grades and lesson plans into the cover school:

When “school lunches” are a combination of last night’s leftovers and something I found in the pantry:

When I grade their copywork:

When I realize my kids know more than I do:

When someone asks me if my SEVEN kids are socialized enough:

When someone thinks being a homeschooler is like living in Little House on the Prairie:

When we do a Thanksgiving unit study:

When I grade my kids’ math tests:

What they say:

When somebody asks me if I’ve heard of Common Core Standards:

When I decide to order a new curriculum that’s never been reviewed by Cathy Duffy:

When we study science:

When someone finds out we homeschool and they assume I wear denim jumpers:

When we decide it’s time to teach the kids Latin:

When I listen to an early reader practice their phonics:

When my kids experience their first Recess at co-op:

When we gather around the table like we do every. single. morning. to do school and I realize nobody has a pencil:

When my kids don’t understand that a teacher’s manual tells me all the answers:

That time we tried a chemistry experiment:

When I tell my kids we’re going to do a project:

When they find out I mean posterboard & crayons – not paint, clay, or glitter:

When someone mentions long division before I’ve finished my coffee:

When the discussion of high school transcripts comes up:

I know y’all can think of more. Leave ’em in the comments. Let’s have a GIFfy giggle or three together!

  1. Oh. My. WORD! I am laughing so hard I have tears coming down my face! Now that either means this is hysterical or I really needed a laugh. =)

  2. This post has MADE MY DAY. I cannot stop laughing. This is so good.

  3. These are hilarious!!!! Oh, my, I am in tears!!

  4. Hahahahahahahahaha!!! Thank you for that!

  5. “….and I realize nobody has a pencil.”

  6. Hee hee hee. You are one cool, clever non-denim-jumper-wearing homeschooling mama. But I already knew that! xxx

  8. bwahahahahaha

  9. OMG – I am CRYING because I am laughing so hard! LOVE LOVE LOVE these! Thank you!!! 🙂

  10. Oh I love you. Pete and I just laaaauuuughhhed…

  11. Cannot. DEAL. This is TOO much funny for one post. Love that as a homeschooling mom I am also surrounded by Friends fans. Too good to be true! 🙂

  12. Fantastic! Even though i don’t homeschool, this was just perfect! Well done, my friend, well done. 🙂 Loved every one!

  13. Ross saying, “I’m fiiiiiine!” Oh, so much potential. Your suspicious of HS MIL, friend, neighbor gets this response to ANYthing. Will the kids learn? They’ll be fiiiiine! Socialized? They’ll be fiiiiiine! House a disaster, dinner not made, kids making a ruckus when someone comes over? We’re fiiiiiine! Then you can offer everyone fajitas like Ross did. 🙂

  14. Oh…. I NEEDED this today…. I will be coming back to this post often! 🙂 Make me feel so…. understood!

  15. I feel a little bad that the early Phonics readers clip actually made me snort! These rock and I’m not even a Friends nerd!

  16. I seriously think I pulled a Ross when no one had a pencil today. I may have watched friends way too much.

  17. Hi·lar·i·ous!

  18. Amber Marie says:

All I could think of was..OMgoodness SEVEN children..

  19. These are hilarious! My favorite was the early phonics reader!!! P.A.I.N.F.U.L.!!!!!

I am crying here. The pencil thing… oh my goodness.
Thanks for this, I needed that laugh!

  21. Oh my- HILARIOUS!!!! Thank you SO much!! I haven’t laughed that hard in too long. You are so clever. You absolutely just made my week! Now excuse me while I go look for the penguins. 🙂

  22. I love the long division clip, lol!

  23. This is great!! I was laughing so hard all the way through!!

  24. This is hilarious. Every once in a while my husband and I get into conversations where we are amazed at how Friends just fits into every aspect of life. EVERY. THING.

  25. I am cracking up! So funny and so true! 🙂

  26. Thank you for a good laugh to start my afternoon. 🙂

  27. Brilliant!

  28. Yesss!!! LOL!

  29. So funny! What I find, um, comforting?? is that I teach at a public high school, and get so frustrated when they show up every day WITHOUT A STINKIN’ PENCIL! Good to know it happens with the homeschooled kids too! 🙂

  30. Love the geometry before coffee! So me

  31. These are brilliant, brilliant I say! Nailed it.

  32. Renita Kuehner says:

This is soooo funny!!! And so true!

  33. Karen Perez says:

This is great! I think I just did the same thing to my kiddos except rather than push I may have said “DO NOT talk to me until I’ve had coffee!” WAY too cute! thanks so much for sharing. The rest of my family that thinks I’m weird for homeschooling but LOVES Friends will get a giggle! 🙂

  34. Oh, the “we were on a break” when Ross ummmm… Ruined his future with Rachael. An excuse for all those times stuff was not done!!! This was priceless. I almost spit out my coffee!

  35. The pencil thing gets me the most. I just started homeschooling my Sophomore this year thru virtual school. The other three (1st, 2nd, & 4th) attend a wonderful private school. Unfortunately, it only goes thru 8th gr. They ALL come to me asking for help with homework, but NEVER bring the stinking pencil to write down their answers as we work thru it!!!

  36. As a former homeschooler and avid Friends fan, I am ROLLING!!! They are all so spot on! This is great! More, please!

  37. Thanks for the memories, but don’t worry about the high school transcripts. While the newspapers had articles about how hard it was for kids to get into college, our homeschooled-through-high-school kid was having a hard time deciding which of the 16 acceptances he would take. Leave it to a homeschooler to apply to 17 schools–just to be safe.

  38. Jeanie Bellows says:

These are awesome!!!! We are only into our second year of homeschooling, but I can totally relate to ALL of these!!!!! Thanks so very much for sharing!!!! I’ll be laughing all day!

  39. Laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes. I have been so burned out and worried I’ve lost that lovin’ feeling. This has completely reinvigorated me! Thank you so very much!

  40. I’m so teared up! You made me laugh so hard! Thank You for making my day (perhaps my week). I’ll be sharing this with all my ‘friends’ as well!

  41. Loved this so much! I had to share it with my blog’s Facebook page. 🙂 Thanks for the laugh.

  42. Andrea Dailey says:

Yes–listening to an early ready practice phonics–never do it right after lunch when you are full AND sleepy anyway! And the pencil thing? Seriously–how is it that my children NEVER think they need a pencil when we start school as we do EVERY OTHER DAY in our school year? LOVED THESE! SHARING!

  43. I was home-schooled, I’m in college now, and that second-to-last one may end up on my desktop if I can figure out how.
I also home-school my toddler, but so far the worst thing he can give me before coffee is “I had an accident and I can’t find my pants.”

  44. Lora Lynn Fanning says:

Kim – *snort* That’s some sort of accident if he can’t find his pants! 😉

  45. This is the best! Can not believe how funny. The penguin one is my favorite too! Thanks so much for brightening my day!!! 🙂

  46. Lol!! This made my week! Thanks for your hard work!

  47. Every time I watch it, I laugh even harder! Especially the first one, and the next, well all of them! We are in our twelth year of homeschooling, so my high school junior found it as funny as I did! Thanks so much!!

  48. Awesome!! Totally hilarious!! Thanks for the laugh!

  49. so funny, actually I should be in the classroom doing copywork with the kids and instead they are playing and I am on FB I needed this.

  50. Carla Oates says:

  51. Here’s one: When we sit down first thing, to do Bible study and nobody has their Bible. EVER.

  52. that is hilarious!! and I am a Friends nerd! lol my fav-learning a foreign language…I don’t know if it’s because it’s one of my favorite episodes or just plain funny tho!! haha

  54. these are so funny! While my son was rounding to the thousands in Math U See, I could not stop giggling at this! Thanks for the laugh!

  55. Dana McLemore says:

Hasn’t been reviewed by Cathy Duffy!?! That’s just crazy talk. Hahahaha!!!! Do you have cameras in my house? Loved it!!

  56. OMW!! I am laughing so hard my eyes are leaking. 🙂

  57. Sharon Fry says:

OMG! These were hilarious! I can’t wait to show these to my husband, we’re huge Friends fans. My favorite was the “nobody has a pencil”. I can SO relate to Ross’ reaction 😉 2nd favorite is the “long division before coffee” – love it!

  58. Jill Shelton says:

Thank you for the belly laughs and knowing my home so well even though you don’t know me personally… 🙂 #lovefriends

  59. Oh my gosh I am laughing so hard! Hilarious!!

  60. This is too funny because it is my life! I can see the graphics, but the sound is not working, is it just my computer????

  61. Homeschooling and Friends…you must be a ‘cool’ mom 🙂

  62. It took forever to load and I am so glad I kept coming back to reload it! So funny!! Thank you for sharing!!

  63. Lisa Alexander says:

    Hi-larious!!!!!! Love this!

  64. Oh, seriously funny!

Too many to pick faves, but the not having a pencil one, the coffee (though it’s chai latte for me), and the high school transcript had me wondering if someone read my mind. 🙂
    Thanks for the many giggles.

  65. Lol! This just made my morning 🙂

  66. I am a total friends nerd. This had my laughing out loud at 5am. The one about teaching Latin, HILARIOUS! I’ll be laughing about this all day.

  67. I LOVE this! Thanks for the laughs today. Especially the nobody has a pencil one…

  68. This is one the funniest things I’ve ever seen about homeschooling! THANKS for doing this! LOVE, LOVE , LOVE it!

  69. I had to go back 14 years, but the memories came flooding back!

  70. Kim Willis says:

I’m crying, I’m laughing so hard. I love Friends anyway but the way you put this together is SO hilarious!!

  71. I am laughing SO hard!!!! I haven’t watched friends, and I don’t homeschool but I was homeschooled myself (this the not watching friends) but I do help my kids with homework, which is, at my house, like cramming in an entire day of homeschool into the hours of 4 and 6 – utter misery 99% of the time.

  72. I love Friends. I love GIFS. Friends + GIFS = Awesomesauce.

Thanks for the laughs this morning!

  73. the gathering around the table with no pencil had me falling over laughing so hard. SO. TRUE.
thanks for the laugh…now off to re arrange a 10 year olds attitude.

  74. While reading, my kid pronounces the same word incorrectly for the zillionth time, and I correct him EVERY TIME….. Monica, “That’s not even a word!!!!!”

  75. oh.my.goodness. By the time my husband gets home from work I am always at my wits end. Last night I sat him down and showed him this by way of explanation for my attitude. He cracked up and I think he understands a little better.

  76. karenciavo says:

When I yell up the stairs at 8:30 in the morning, “Come on down.” And they say, “Why?”

  77. Oo-nah-gee

  78. Ok, I don’t home school but these are hilarious! I love Friends!

  79. Hilarious!

  80. Thank you so much — that made my day!

  81. The look on the peoples faces at the Homeschool Convention when I asked about a good science curriculum that does not reference the Bible or creation.

  83. HYSTERICAL!!!! I’m reposting this now!!

  84. I swear Algebra acted as a laxative in my house. Just mention that it was time to pull out their Saxon Algebra textbooks, and both my sons had to use the restroom. Unfortunately for them, I’d just hand them their texts and notebooks & pencils, and say “Don’t forget this!” LOL

  85. “I’m a lone wolf”! LOVE IT! Fiiiiiine, they’ll be fiiiine! I love all of these, thank you!

  86. Your child says he needs a bathroom break, so you go in the laundry room to fold towels while you wait for him. You go back to help him with more school work and he is eating an ice cream sandwich. You ask him “what do you think you’re doing?” He replies “We were on a break!”

  87. That’s the BEST!

  88. Every time I go back through, I laugh even harder! My eyes are watering…thanks for the laugh!! 😉

  89. Just. Awesome. Thanks!!

  90. Hmm. Seven homeschooled kids huh? Which cult do you belong to?

  91. oh my word…I was laughing so (maniacally) hysterically that my husband thought I had taken leave of my senses, especially when I got to the whole silent vibrate tears running down face laugh…

  92. This is brilliant I say, BRILLIANT!

  93. This was THE BEST!! Because I homeschool AND I love Friends so much!

  94. I’d swear you had me on video with the whole listening to an early reader practice phonics! I’m not sure how many times my dear 2nd daughter, who was dreadfully slow in learning to read, said “Mom, you’re falling asleep again!” And I am so with you with the idea of projects being posterboard and crayons – I don’t even like markers.

  95. When your kids want to go back to the conversation from an hour ago – It’s a “Moo Point.” 🙂

  96. Awesome and thank you very much!

  97. LOL, that was great, thanks! 🙂

  98. Thank you, thank you. I needed this today. Yesterday and today I was thinking that the school down the street would be a great choice. My husband would agree so I need things like this to keep my spirits up.

  99. I am not a dedicated friend of Friends, however that was cute indeed.

  100. Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!

  101. The comments are just as funny as the Friend’s gifs. LOL!

  102. I’ve seen ALL this episodes! Laughing and crying!!

  103. That is hilarious! Soo good! You are very talented ; ) God bless!

  104. that was priceless 🙂

  105. Insanely funny! So good to laugh ! I especially relate to the “long division before coffee”.

  106. Really enjoyed this!!

  107. Oh my! This was wonderful!!!! Thank you for the much needed belly laugh, and to know I’m not alone! My favorites centered around the projects, falling asleep, and the not having a pencil. Thanks again!

  108. LOL that was so funny. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Thank you for making my day.

  109. When the kids defend their wrong answers on a test (thinking True- False here):

Joey’s saying, “Knowledge is a tricky thing.”

Source: When Ross kissed Chandler’s mom.

  110. I came back to this post this morning just to start my morning with a giggle. Made me think of college days when we watched Friends or ER together over whatever snack was craved by whichever person. You know, back in the days before you caved and moved over to the dark side: coffee.

  111. I just died.

  112. This is PERFECT. I love it!

  113. jeni gardner says:

Oh. My. Goodness. Tears, streaming down my face from the best laugh I’ve had in a few days. Thank you. Found your blog yesterday and am excited to be a new follower. Blessings & Joy to you & yours!

  114. Kitsie Harmon says:

HILLARIOUS!!! I cried in laughter. Home school Mom for 18 years, LOL

  115. Can you update this? None of the photos show up?

  116. Lora Lynn Fanning says:

Hi Brenna – Thanks for letting me know. I recently had some site issues and I’ll bet this slipped through the cracks. I’ll get it fixed right away!

  117. I about lost it on the long division!

  118. Rebekah Tobar says:

Oh my gosh, You are awesome!!! Thanks for the laughs!!

  119. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

  120. Thanks so much for sharing this! Too funny!

  121. So very funny!

  122. Oh, oh. This is hilarious. I am crying in laughter over here – thanks for sharing!! 🙂

  123. This is HILARIOUS.

  124. Dominique says:

This is so funny! Now I know that I am not alone!!! I suddenly felt the need to watch Friends again

  125. This is by far the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Thank you for making me laugh this morning!

  126. Can. Not. Stop. Laughing. I LOVED this show and can name the episodes and this is SO my life now. Brilliant!

  127. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this! Thanks for the morning smiles!

  128. You are seriously the funniest person EVER! I love friend and love homeschooling, put them together and you get this. I was laughing SO HARD! Thanks for making my day. Im going to read this over and over whenever my day gets hard. I love the socializing one and the kids dont have a pencil one, heck, I love them all!

  129. After being in my pj’s since before 6am to bake something for my son’s Latin class (because he reminded me at 930pm last night), to then realize he can’t go because he woke up pretty sick, it has become a pj-therapy day with minimal school and Facebook for mom. I was already feeling delirious, so now I am ROFL with tears in my eyes. Thanks for the great laugh! I think that we are now ready for Christmas break!
Please, no comments on my run-on grammar. 🙂

  130. This is hysterical! We homeschool and we love Friends, so you just gave us the best of both worlds.

  131. Oh, my goodness…these are hilarious! Great job!

  132. This is genius!!

  133. Cheryl Rogers says:

    so appropriate!

  134. Fabulous! We need Monica’s “You don’t know the SYSTEM!” somewhere. Like if someone offers to babysit.

  135. My daughter who really does suffer from chronic lyme’s disease says every time she gets math problems wrong: “My mind is in a fog today!” Tears roll and she has to be put to bed. OR “It is my time mom, and my harmones are making me confused!” Ughhhhh…..never “Yeah, I didn’t get it.”

  136. I have, some would say, an “unhealthy” love of Friends AND homeschooling….. LOVE IT! LOL

  137. oh my word, I laughed so hard I cried!! Absolutely hilarious. And Friends reruns are definitely GREAT therapy for weary homeschool days!! That was just what I needed today. Thanks for sharing!

  138. Loved this. Thanks so much!!

  139. I don’t think it can be condensed to a GIF, but there’s an episode where Phoebe and Ross discuss evolution. Ross has a huge problem with the fact that Phoebe doesn’t believe in it, but Phoebe doesn’t care what he thinks. It reminds me of some of the heated evolution vs. creationism debates I have seen homeschoolers get into. Of course, that goes both ways.

  140. Hey! What’s wrong with a denim jumper?! 🙂

  141. laughing so hard!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! 🙂 Great job. “I too am a neat guy.”

  142. Jessica Greivell says:

priceless! thanks for the laughs 🙂

  143. Oh my life! says:

This is sooo funny! Thank you. I’m convinced my children eat their pencil’s.

  144. Michelle Pitonyak says:

I thought this was so funny! Thank you for writing this! I am glad to hear that denim jumpers are not mandatory~ I am donating mine tomorrow! I hope though, that you wear those chunky wooden necklaces, because those are very hip!

  145. I can relate to almost every one! lol I think there is a pencil thief in our home, nobody ever has a pencil! My fave was the first one, someone comes over and everybody gets so excited!

  146. Tears. Rolling tears. Quiet laughter to not wake the house from naps. (teens who are sick, not toddlers who would entertain me). Oh. My. It just got funnier and funnier.

  147. Barbara Bettin says:

Or today’s experience… Even though the work never leaves HOME, we can still seem to ” not be able to find it”

  148. I thought of another one, where Monica gives a really boring party and people keep sneaking off to have fun across the hall. She starts out a silly game with a lecture on how to put the caps back on the markers “make sure you hear the click!!!” LOL that’s me and all my spendy dry erase markers! ( in this video at 1:21) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4zEqse0F2o

  149. I really don’t understand the denim jumper/homeschool mom stereotype. Everyone in our house wears pajamas for school. THAT should be the stereotype. Although, I guess Wal-Mart shoppers have already taken that one…

  150. Friends was my last true show obsession before homeschooling. Thank you so much for the hilariously funny and super witty ditties you put up!
I’m still laughing just thinking about them!

  151. Love it! Hilarious!

  152. Staci Schulz says:

Oh that is hilarious! I am preparing for our first year of homeschooling grades 5, 3, and 1! I have nothing to reference to other than stories my friends have shared and I LOVE Friends! That seems so right on for what I have imagined it to be! Thank you for sharing!

  153. Oh my goodness! This made my day and is so true!

  154. Funny, love it. Giggled most to science, co-op recess & coffee before long division!

  155. I will be laughing at these for days! Thank you!

  156. I LOVE it!! Friends + Homeschooling combined; how can you go wrong?!

  157. These are so great! Long time homeschooler and fan of Friends – these made my day!

  158. These never get old!!!

  159. And I thought homeschool mother’s were supposed to be no fun and serious! Heeee heeeee

  160. MORE PLEASE!!!!!!

  161. Jenna Craine says:
