Is This Thing On?

Er, does the internet still work?

Whew.

I was afraid if I turned my back on it for longer than 48 hours it would go up in smoke.

Guess not.

We’re still here. Still doing our thing. The boys are in grandparent-detox. You know, where they realize that they have to entertain themselves and that most grown-ups (especially Mom and Dad) are boring. Did I mention they had a fabulous time with my mom? They chased her all around the woods, played in the dirt, and read lots of silly stories together. And napped really well.

They napped well today, too. Weekends are tough to recover from.

Ellen has finally emerged from her Ugly Baby cocoon and is acting much more like herself. Her ear infection is better, but she still hasn’t pushed that tooth through. I may rip it out myself…

Now that she is her cheerful self again, I can revel in all her new tricks. She pulls up on everything and cruises around like a champ. She loves her walker and motors around the downstairs very effectively.

Motorin'

Those jammies she is wearing were made for her by Aunt Anita. We’ve been sewing up a storm around here, but that’s another blog post entirely. Suffice it to say, Ellen will be well dressed. Which is good, because she’s starting to talk and a girl needs to be properly attired when she makes speeches. So far, we’ve heard a consistent “I’m done,” “Tank you,” “Daddy,” and “Ow.”

She learned “ow” from me. When she’s nursing. Now when she finishes nursing she leans back and gives me a hearty “Ow!”

It’d be precious if she weren’t right.

I’ve also heard her say “night night” a time or two. But I can’t make her repeat it often, so I won’t count it. Yet.

Andrew is working lots right now, so we’re all adjusting to not having him around as much. Which is pretty pitiful. I know we’re spoiled with how much he works from home. And when he leaves home, we all fall apart. There’s something about just having Daddy in the house that makes our days run smoother.

Because I’m co-dependent, that’s why.

Know what else I depend on? The internet. I’m so glad it’s on. And that you’re all still here, right where I left you. Right?

Look at that big grin. She’ll be chasing those boys in no time and talking their ears off while she’s at it!

ABSOLUTELY!!! And we missed you while you were busy and didn’t get to write and send such adorable pictures.

Oh, I do understand that Daddy-working-at-home-and-then-being-gone thing. It gets crazy! I’m not sure why the family dynamics change so much, but they really do.

I’m glad ya’ll enjoyed your visit with your mom. It would’ve been nice to meet her. I would have told her what an awesome daughter she has (though I suspect she already knows that).

Hear ya on the co-dependent thing…I used to say that about myself even BEFORE children. WOW Ellen is verbal!

We did miss you! That is so funny about the “Ow!” I nursed mine for a year each, and it seemed at the end, Buddy would grab handfuls of, um, me, or he would turn his head to look at something while still “attached.” Ow is right.

I totally hear you about the grandparent detox-that’s what we call it, too! It takes awhile to get back to normal!

Ellen is such a beautiful little girl and I love the PJ’s. She looks a little old-fashioned. Hugs and Kisses to all.

I was beginning to be worried by your lack of posting, but was assuming you were all too bust having fun. Good to have you back though!

Impressive that she is babbling in coherent terms already… Ian is more of a Dada, Mama, Baba, Eeeeeeeeeeee kinda guy right now!
