I don’t even pretend to be a “kitchen blogger,” but I do get lots of requests for easy recipes for busy families. I tried one today that got 12 thumbs up from the portion of my family with functioning teeth.
We eat lots of beef. I always have frozen hamburger handy because we buy it in large portions from a farmer. We like hamburgers, but we don’t have a grill and I really hate standing over the stove frying them. So when I saw Noble Pig’s genius idea for sliders, I added them to my “Make Immediately” list.
Which, naturally, means I made them three weeks later.
Preparation took two minutes tops and the meat cooked up perfectly. Then Andrew took the dinner rolls and kept them attached. He sliced them in half all in one big bread chunk and slathered both tops and bottoms with mayo and mustard. Then I used a pizza cutter to slice the meat into squares and we slid them onto the buns. We pulled each slider apart and realized that was the fastest we’d EVER made sandwiches for the entire gang. I will now be searching for a recipe for dinner rolls that will bake up all touching each other so we can make sandwiches that fast all the time.
Here’s a top shot so you can see that six rolls were attached together and by leaving them together, Andrew made six burgers in no time flat.
He’s a genius, my Andrew is. I can’t even begin to tell you how life altering this sandwich slathering technique is. Although I do believe I’ve repeated it plenty of times in the past two paragraphs.
Finally, here’s some yummy goodness, complete with dill pickle.
Try this one, please. Soon.
And did I mention how fast he made sandwiches for everyone? Because it was fast, y’all. Real fast.

That is absolute genius!!!
I got out 5lbs. of ground beef tonight and thought about burgers, but I hate to be elbow deep in patting and shaping and have all heck break loose like it occasionally does around these parts.
I’m definitely giving that a try!

First of all, you don’t have a grill? Whaaaaaa? I had to read that line like three times to make sure I read it right.
Hmmmmm.
Anyway, I agree - what a genius way to do burgers! We must definitely try these.

Leighton - That is our one fault as a family, yes.
Our old one rusted out and we’re too cheap to replace it. So we suffer…

We had hamburgers last night too. =) Not as easy as this but still…and yes, what is this that you have no grill? LOL I think it’s sacrilege for a Southerner to not have one, isn’t it?

I’ll come out and support my sister by admitting we don’t have a grill either. Ours bit the dust a couple years ago and we haven’t replaced it yet. So the George Foreman is our substitute for now.
There are times when you have to make do with what ya’ve got.

What a great idea! I’m all about fast and yummy! I don’t have time or energy these days for long and complicated cooking! Thanks for passing this recipe my way! I’m going to try this recipe asap (or just like you…in 3 weeks!) Haha!

Quick question…how did you go about finding a farmer that will sale you beef? I think that would be awesome! Just haven’t heard of it! I buy ground beef at the grocery store but, would love to remove the middle man? Any tips for me to find a farmer that sales beef?

Fabulous! We’ll be trying this for sure. We do have a grill, only b/c we inherited one, and we hardly ever use it. Maybe that’ll change someday, like when the kids are old enough to handle it!

Umm. I just make my usual bread recipe and form balls, putting them into a 9×13 casserole dish. I guess maybe a good 3 or 4 pounds of dough? Once they rise and bake up, they are usually all connected like that. I will say that I have never ever been able to make any sort of bun that competes with WFM dinner rolls, but I suspect it’s because they sub a lot of white flour and add a considerable amount of sugar to theirs.
Folks can find a farmer at http://www.localharvest.org, btw
