Can I Get A Hallelujah?

We had our super-duper ultrasound today. There was the usual hijinks, complete with me power-waddling through the entire length of the hospital, having to register in fifty different places, all while needing to pee. The ultrasound tech at the doctor’s office broke her leg over the weekend, so they called me an hour before my appointment to tell me to go to the hospital for my ultrasound. Only nobody really knew what to do with me. Hence, all the wandering. Andrew finally found me a wheelchair.

Once we were finally settled in the ultrasound room, which was nothing more than a closet with a treadmill, a stretcher, an ultrasound machine, and a very loud radio playing Led Zeppelin, the tech announced first thing, “The placenta has moved. See? Looks good. You’re in the clear!”

And in that moment, Willa was my favorite child. Until she sent a fist flying into my kidneys and evened the playing field again. God is so good. It was such a relief to be told that all the “scary stuff” involved with a previa and my particular conditions were no longer a factor. Sure, I could still end up with a C-section, but at least I have a fighting chance. What we have here, folks, is a Uterine Miracle. She waited til the last minute, but my little princess has situated herself perfectly for a bit of “normal” when it comes to her delivery. We are thrilled.

Next, it was back over to the doctor’s office for a stress test. As they hooked me up to the monitor, Willa got extremely agitated and developed the hiccups. The room was suddenly filled with the sound of her heartbeat racing followed by intense little “thudding” sounds as she kicked the monitor with every hiccup. Everyone laughed. Then the nurse handed me a button and said, “Press this every time you feel the baby move.”

I thought she was kidding.

“You mean you can’t HEAR THIS?”

The nurse explained that they needed to compare her movement to her heartbeat, so I had to record the movement. I pressed the button and it made a loud buzzing noise. Fabulous. Willa and I made beautiful music together. Thud-Bz. Thud-Bz. Thud-Bz. Thud, thunk, thumpa, whomp. Buzz. Thud-Bz. Thud-Bz. Thud-Bz.

Andrew got so hysterical he had to leave because every time I laughed, I appeared to have a contraction (it just looked like it on the monitor. I was fine.) But I couldn’t concentrate on buzzing every 1.5 seconds if I was laughing, so out the door Andrew went. After about ten minutes, the doctor came in and I put the buzzer down. He pronounced us all healthy and sent us on our way.

Guess what we have to repeat next week? That’s right, the whole she-bang. Ultrasound, stress test, etc. I wonder what sort of song we’ll play this time?

What amazing news! I also got to enjoy the musical accompaniment with both Zach and Ian! The best part of the whole experience besides of knowing that they were healthy, was the choice of chocolate or peanut M’s I got before we started the stress test to help get the munchkins movin’! No wonder I gained all that weight at the end of each pregnancy ;).

Way to go Willa! Good job on the move. So glad! Hope all goes well. I pass the hat to you, my little girl arrived yesterday. She just couldn’t wait until November. The eager beaver is doing well, though. Hope everything goes great for you and your family, too.
